Trisha is initially annoyed by Strip's flirtatiousness but eventually reciprocates his affections, although not quite to the same degree he feels for her. He develops an infatuation with her, following Trisha to her Malibu beach house, hanging around despite her cold demeanor and offering her pills in an attempt to woo her. One day at a pharmacy, she meets Vick "Strip" Sunset (John Travolta), an indigent, suave young drifter whom she met briefly in the recent past when he worked as a car valet. So if you would like one or a signed photo, let me know with an address I can send it to.Trisha Rawlings (Lily Tomlin) is a wealthy, middle-aged Beverly Hills socialite suffering from loneliness following a separation from her philandering husband Stu (Bert Kramer). As a gesture of thanks, I would like to send you a signed copy of my book. I was flattered and very happy with the photos (some I had never seen) and your talented style of writing. "I just discovered your profile about me and my career. Heavily illustrated and highly informative". "Oh, and for those who are looking for fascinating, funny, often outré online reading about vintage, sometimes obscure, movies, TV shows and stars, try the blog, “Poseidon’s Underworld.” You’ll find everything from detailed and witty biographies to posts on how stars wore their clothes - or didn’t - as each show biz decade constricted or loosened up. My husband would have gotten a huge kick out of it! With love, Monica"- Monica Lewis Tribute to Monica Thank you for joining my page, and for sharing your passion for EARTHQUAKE and other films of that remarkable era in our industry. You clearly have an intense and wonderful passion for cult and genre cinema. I had actually seen your blog before - a friend showed it to me a year or two ago. "Thank you for your nice message, and for the link to your blog. "To Jon-I really enjoyed your blog! Love Joan" - Dame Joan Collins (via autographed menu supplied by a mutual friend!) Photos of Menu & Joan Selznick explaining to his GWTW when asked why they were wearing unseen bloomers underneath hoop skirts in a medium shot, "It matters."Īlso, considering Poseidon's thoughts about Lana Turner or Susan Hayward in the Tomlin role, I have the perfect re-casting for this film had they thought harder about it: Natalie Wood and John Travolta. What can I say.Īgain, if I didn't correct the record, I would feel dishonest. This must have been around the time when "Urban Cowboy" came out and I called it "Urban Cocksucker" or something or other. In retrospect, I was only vaguely aware she was a dyke and I guess I had touched a nerve and she took it personally. The more I thought about it, I realize I was in high school when this came out, and that it was I, and not the dyke I later worked with (as I described above) who called the film "Bowel Movement by Bowel Movement."Īs the details came back into focus, I realize I must have been impressed by my teenage wit, for I later repeated myself and drove my dyke co-worker into full protective mode of Lily Tomlin as I slammed the earlier film from memory. For some dumb reason, I have now become obsessed with this film as the full horror of my younger years flooded back to me. I know this is all so very silly, but please indulge me as I correct my personal record. I agree with FelixinHollywood your write up was far more enjoyable than this waste of celluloid will ever be. I have seen her live and she is magical and so much of her other work is divine that this excursion into disaster should be ignored. However in this he went right down with the ship.Īs for Lily I try and forget she was ever involved in this. I've never been a huge fan of Travolta, when he was young he seemed too aware of his looks and now that he looks like Count Dracula and is surrounded by so much strangeness he just seems sad, but there were times, the first Look Who's Talking comes to mind, where he could be charming. It was not a large group to start but by the time the credits rolled only a few souls had soldiered through the whole horrendous mess! I am glad to say I have only the vaguest memories of it but those are not tinged with the distance of nostalgia, what I remember is a numbing train wreck with Lily repeating Strip! Strip! endlessly. Having not read the reviews I was unprepared for hellacious pile of slop that was projected and forced on an unsuspecting audience. I have to admit I willing saw this cinematic car crash in the theatre opening weekend when it first came out because of my adoration of Lily Tomlin.
